I am a lecturer, writer and public speaker specialising in film and television.

My book, Hester Street , is in the BFI Film Classics series published by Bloomsbury. The book is an accessible, in-depth study of the 1975 film directed by Joan Micklin Silver, and marks the 50th anniversary of the landmark film.
My reviews, interviews and opinion pieces have been published by the BFI, Sight & Sound, the Jewish Chronicle, Jewish Quarterly and Jewish Renaissance. I curated Jewish Britain on Film, a BFI-JW3 archive project (2019-2023) and contributed to the BFI’s Chantal Akerman retrospective (2025) and Fellini Centenary season (2020). I am a member of the London Film Critics’ Circle.
I am passionate about media education and audience engagement. I regularly give public lectures, introduce film screenings and teach courses in cinemas and online. I host Q&As with filmmakers and industry professionals, working with festivals and venues including UK Jewish Film, the BFI, the Barbican, the Freud Museum, the Phoenix Cinema, JW3 and Picturehouse Cinemas. My online lectures have been attended by thousands of international participants.
I hold a PhD in Film Studies from UCL, for which I wrote my doctoral thesis on autobiographical documentary. I have an MA in Italian Studies and a specialist knowledge of Italian cinema and language.
I consult with Film, TV and Theatre professionals to promote sensitive, accurate portrayals of Jewish people on stage and screen. See my Casting Jewish page for more information.
